Merge tag 'v7.2-rc1' into drm-rust-next
Merge v7.2-rc1 into drm-rust-next to start the next cycle.
Devres now requires T: 'static, which conflicts with shmem::Object using Devres<SGTableMap<T, C>> without that bound. Resolve by adding 'static as a supertrait to DriverObject and DeviceContext, which does not restrict any current use cases since DriverObject is always implemented on owned, refcounted types and DeviceContext is a sealed marker trait with only unit-type implementors.
If DriverObject (or DeviceContext) ever becomes lifetime-parameterized (e.g. via a GAT for TTM backed objects), the 'static supertrait can be relaxed at that point.

Pull SoC devicetree updates from Arnd Bergmann: "There are two new mystery SoCs with very little public information about them so far, Qualcomm's Cortex-A78C based "Shikra" and Altera's Cortex-A720 based Agilex72 SOCFPGA.
We have also gained support for a couple of SoCs from the 2023/2024 timeframe that have been in the making for a while:
- The Apple platform gains support for M3 Pro, Max and Ultra SoC, following the basic M3 support from 7.2.
- Samsung Exynos 1580 is a high-end mobile phone SoC from 2024
- Canaan K230 is a RISC-V based 64-bit AI SoC, based on the earlier K210 chip
- Sophgo SG2000 is a mixed Arm/RISC-V chip that was already supported using the Arm core but is now also added for RISC-V along with several other variants of the cv18xx series
In terms of newly added machines we have reference platforms for all the chips above, plus
- Only four 32-bit Arm boards: two older phones and two older industrial/embedded boards; using Allwinner, Qualcomm and Rockchip SoCs
- Three laptops und three phones using Qualcomm SoCs
- Ten 64-bit Rockchips based single-board computers, along with one NAS box and a game console.
- Seven industrial/embedded boards and modules using NXP i.MX8/9 SoCs.
- A Lenovo desktop box based on NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX
- A few more single-board computers based on Allwinnner A133, Spacemit K1 and TI AM62.
As usual, there is a constant stream of minor cleanups and fixes towards addressing the 'dt-check-style --mode strict' warnings, and everyone is expected to address those warnings for new submissions now"

- Use designated initializers for sh_mtu2, sh_cmt, and sh_tmu, and drop the unused initializer in the platform_device_id table for sh_mtu2 (Uwe Kleine-König)
- Remove redundant dev_err()/dev_err_probe() messages when devm_request_*_irq() fails, as the helper already logs an error message (Pan Chuang)
- Fix a boot hang on Allwinner D1 when a forced minimum delta is used with the sun4i timer (Felix Yan)
- Fix an IRQ leak in the cpuhp_setup_state() error path by freeing the IRQ on failure in the NXP PIT driver (WenTao Liang)
- Fix incorrect unmapping of shared MMIO between the clocksource and clockevent drivers. If one of them fails to initialize, the error path unmaps the shared MMIO region, leaving the other driver with an invalid mapping on clps711x (Guangshuo Li)
- Make the samsung_pwm driver compatible with PREEMPT_RT by replacing regular spinlocks with raw_spinlock_t in atomic contexts (Marek Szyprowski)
- Use __raw_readl() and __raw_writel() instead of ioread32() and iowrite32() to support SWAP_IO_SPACE in the rtl-otto driver (Rustam Adilov)
- Fix a missing clk_disable_unprepare() call in the timer initialization error path of the Armada driver (Yuho Choi)

- Initial M3 Pro, Max and Ultra device trees, which are responsible for the majority of the diffstat. These include CPU cores, interrupt controller, power state, watchdog, serial pin/gpio controller, i2c and the boot framebuffer. They are now on par with the base M3 device trees. - HWMON sensors for M1/M2 - "pmgr-misc" nodes for M1/2 Pro/Max/Ultra which saves about 1W of power on these machines. The corresponding driver and dt-binding are part of the Apple SoC driver changes tag for this cycle.

Merge patch series "Initial Apple M3 Pro, Max and Ultra device trees"
Janne Grunau <j@jannau.net> says:
This series adds device trees for Apple silicon devices with M3 Pro, Max and Ultra SoCs. The M3 generation has fewer devices than their M1 and M2 predecessors. The only non-laptop device is the M3 Ultra Mac Studio. The Laptops are the known 14 and 16-inch Macbook Pros now with M3 Pro and M3 Max SoCs. The M3 Max variant with fewer CPU and GPU cores has additionally only a 384-bit wide memory bus instead of 512-bit of the full M3 Max. It has a separate identifier (T6034) and so there are six laptop device trees. Another difference to M1 and M2 Pro/Max/Ultra is that the M3 Pro is distinct SoC design and not a smaller M3 Max. For this reason both M3 Max variants and the M3 Ultra will use "apple,t6030" as compatible prefix. In the M1 and M2 generations Pro, Max and Ultra SoCs shared "apple,t6000" / "apple,t6020" as common prefix. There is currently no known difference but M3 Pro and M3 Max are not as closely related as previously.
This series adds the same level of hardware as the base M3 (T8122) has in v7.2-rc1. This includes CPU cores, interrupt controller, power states, watchdog, serial, pin controller, i2c and the boot framebuffer. This is intended as base so that support for additional hardware can be added to all M3 based devices at the same time.

arm64: dts: apple: Initial T6030 (M3 Pro) device trees
Minimal device trees for the M3 Pro based 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro released in November 2023. The M3 Pro is a distinct SoC design and not a cut down version of the Max variant like for M1 and M2 Pro. The M3 Pro has only a single cluster with up to 6 performance cores and one cluster with 6 efficiency cores. While it no longer shares a common SoC .dtsi the devices itself are still similar to the ones with M3 Max. It is still useful to share the basic device composition in t603x-j514-j516.dtsi. For the M3 Pro based devices additional overrides for diverging pin and irq numbers are expected. The device trees have devices nodes for CPU cores, timer, interrupt controller, power states, watchdog, serial, pin controller, i2c, PWM based keyboard LED illumination and the boot framebuffer.

arm64: dts: apple: Initial T603[124] (M3 Max and Ultra) device trees
Contains minimal device trees for all M3 Max and Ultra Apple silicon devices. Those are 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M3 Max released in November 2023 and Mac Studio with M3 Ultra released in 2025. This does not include M3 Pro since it is separate SoC and not a smaller variant of the M3 Max contrary to the M1 and M2 generations. The smaller M3 Max variant (10 performance cores) has its own chip variant (T6034) but is clearly the same design as T6031. Besides fewer CPU performance cores and GPU cores it misses also on fourth of the memory controllers and thus has an aggregated bus width of 384 bit instead of 512 bit. Both M3 Ultra variants (28 or 32 CPU cores) are based on T6031 judging by the advertised memory bandwidth of 819GB/s. This uses the same multi-die macros as t600x*.dtsi and t602x.dtsi to support M3 Max and M3 Ultra without duplicating device nodes. Since the M3 Pro can't use the same .dtsi files "t6031*.dtsi" are used to define common nodes for T6031, T6032 and T6034. The device trees have devices nodes for CPU cores, timer, interrupt controller, power states, watchdog, serial, pin controller, i2c, PWM based keyboard LED illumination and the boot framebuffer.

Merge tag 'soc-dt-7.2' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/soc/soc
Pull SoC devicetree updates from Arnd Bergmann: "There are fewer devicetree updates this time that the last few ones, with five SoC types getting added:
- Qualcomm Dragonwing IPQ9650 is a new wireless networking SoC using four Cortex-A55 and one Cortex-A78 core, which is a significant upgrade from older generations
- ZTE zx297520v3 is an older low-end wireless SoC using a single Cortex-A53 core, which so far can only run 32-bit kernels. This brings back the ZX family of chips that was removed in 2021 after support for the original zx296702 and zx296718 chips was never completed.
- Renesas R-Car M3Le (R8A779MD) is a variant of the R-Car M3-N (R8A77965) automotive SoC.
- Apple t8122 (M3) is the 2023 generation of their laptop SoCs, which has now been reverse-engineered to the point of having initial kernel support for five laptop models.
- ASPEED AST27xx is their first baseboard managment controller using a 64-bit core, the Cortex-A35, following earlier generations using ARMv5/v6/v7 CPUs.
These all come with one or more initial boards, and in total there are 39 new boards getting added across SoC families, including:
- Two NAS boxes using the old Cortina Systems Gemini SoC based on an ARMv4 FA526 CPU core
- 18 industrial embedded boards using NXP i.MX6/8/9 and LX2160A SoCs from Variscite, Toradex and SolidRun, plus a number of overlays for combinations with additional boards
- One new carrier board and SoM using TI K3 AM62x, in addition to new overlays for older SoMs
- Two new boards using Spacemit K3 (no relation with TI) RISC-V SoCs.
- Three phones from Google, Nothing and Motorola, all using Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs
- AST26xx BMC support for two server boards
While there is still a significant number of patches improving hardware support for the existing boards across vendors (NXP, Qualcomm, Renesas, Rockchips, Mediatek, ...), a much smaller number of cleanups and warning fixes have made it in this time"
