Merge tag 'kbuild-v5.8' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/masahiroy/linux-kbuild
Pull Kbuild updates from Masahiro Yamada:
- fix warnings in 'make clean' for ARCH=um, hexagon, h8300, unicore32
- ensure to rebuild all objects when the compiler is upgraded
- exclude system headers from dependency tracking and fixdep processing
- fix potential bit-size mismatch between the kernel and BPF user-mode helper
- add the new syntax 'userprogs' to build user-space programs for the target architecture (the same arch as the kernel)
- compile user-space sample code under samples/ for the target arch instead of the host arch
- make headers_install fail if a CONFIG option is leaked to user-space
- sanitize the output format of scripts/checkstack.pl
- handle ARM 'push' instruction in scripts/checkstack.pl
- error out before modpost if a module name conflict is found
- error out when multiple directories are passed to M= because this feature is broken for a long time
- add CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_COMPRESSED to support compressed debug info
- a lot of cleanups of modpost
- dump vmlinux symbols out into vmlinux.symvers, and reuse it in the second pass of modpost
- do not run the second pass of modpost if nothing in modules is updated
- install modules.builtin(.modinfo) by 'make install' as well as by 'make modules_install' because it is useful even when CONFIG_MODULES=n
- add new command line variables, GZIP, BZIP2, LZOP, LZMA, LZ4, and XZ to allow users to use alternatives such as pigz, pbzip2, etc.

kbuild: use CONFIG_CC_VERSION_TEXT to construct LINUX_COMPILER macro
scripts/mkcompile_h runs $(CC) just for getting the version string. Reuse CONFIG_CC_VERSION_TEXT for optimization.
For GCC, this slightly changes the version string. I do not think it is a big deal as we do not have the defined format for LINUX_COMPILER. In fact, the recent commit 4dcc9a88448a ("kbuild: mkcompile_h: Include $LD version in /proc/version") added the linker version.

Merge tag 'kbuild-v5.7-2' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/masahiroy/linux-kbuild
Pull more Kbuild updates from Masahiro Yamada:
- raise minimum supported binutils version to 2.23
- remove old CONFIG_AS_* macros that we know binutils >= 2.23 supports
- move remaining CONFIG_AS_* tests to Kconfig from Makefile
- enable -Wtautological-compare warnings to catch more issues
- do not support GCC plugins for GCC <= 4.7
- fix various breakages of 'make xconfig'
- include the linker version used for linking the kernel into LINUX_COMPILER, which is used for the banner, and also exposed to /proc/version
- link lib-y objects to vmlinux forcibly when CONFIG_MODULES=y, which allows us to remove the lib-ksyms.o workaround, and to solve the last known issue of the LLVM linker
- add dummy tools in scripts/dummy-tools/ to enable all compiler tests in Kconfig, which will be useful for distro maintainers
- support the single switch, LLVM=1 to use Clang and all LLVM utilities instead of GCC and Binutils.
- support LLVM_IAS=1 to enable the integrated assembler, which is still experimental

kbuild: do not pass $(KBUILD_CFLAGS) to scripts/mkcompile_h
scripts/mkcompile_h uses $(CC) only for getting the version string.
I suspected there was a specific reason why the additional flags were needed, and dug the commit history. This code dates back to at least 2002 [1], but I could not get any more clue.
Just get rid of it.
