Merge branch 'linus' into x86/boot, to resolve conflict

There's a new conflict with Linus's upstream tree, because
in the following merge conflict resolution in <asm/coco.h>:

38b334fc767e Merge tag 'x86_sev_for_v6.9_rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip

Linus has resolved the conflicting placement of 'cc_mask' better
than the original commit:

1c811d403afd x86/sev: Fix position dependent variable references in startup code

... which was also done by an internal merge resolution:

2e5fc4786b7a Merge branch 'x86/sev' into x86/boot, to resolve conflicts and to pick up dependent tree

But Linus is right in 38b334fc767e, the 'cc_mask' declaration is sufficient
within the #ifdef CONFIG_ARCH_HAS_CC_PLATFORM block.

So instead of forcing Linus to do the same resolution again, merge in Linus's
tree and follow his conflict resolution.

Merge tag 'vfs-6.9.super' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/vfs

Pull block handle updates from Christian Brauner:
"Last cycle we changed opening of block devices, and opening a block
device would return a bdev_handle. This allowed us to implement
support for restricting and forbidding writes to mounted block
devices. It was accompanied by converting and adding helpers to
operate on bdev_handles instead of plain block devices.

That was already a good step forward but ultimately it isn't necessary
to have special purpose helpers for opening block devices internally
that return a bdev_handle.

Fundamentally, opening a block device internally should just be
equivalent to opening files. So now all internal opens of block
devices return files just as a userspace open would. Instead of
introducing a separate indirection into bdev_open_by_*() via struct
bdev_handle bdev_file_open_by_*() is made to just return a struct
file. Opening and closing a block device just becomes equivalent to
opening and closing a file.

This all works well because internally we already have a pseudo fs for
block devices and so opening block devices is simple. There's a few
places where we needed to be careful such as during boot when the
kernel is supposed to mount the rootfs directly without init doing it.
Here we need to take care to ensure that we flush out any asynchronous
file close. That's what we already do for opening, unpacking, and
closing the initramfs. So nothing new here.

The equivalence of opening and closing block devices to regular files
is a win in and of itself. But it also has various other advantages.
We can remove struct bdev_handle completely. Various low-level helpers
are now private to the block layer. Other helpers were simply
removable completely.

A follow-up series that is already reviewed build on this and makes it
possible to remove bdev->bd_inode and allows various clean ups of the
buffer head code as well. All places where we stashed a bdev_handle
now just stash a file and use simple accessors to get to the actual
block device which was already the case for bdev_handle"

Merge series 'Open block devices as files' of https://lore.kernel.org/r/20240123-vfs-bdev-file-v2-0-adbd023e19cc@kernel.org

Pull block devices as files from Christian Brauner:

This opens block devices as files. Instead of introducing a separate
indirection into bdev_open_by_*() vis struct bdev_handle we can just
make bdev_file_open_by_*() return a struct file. Opening and closing a
block device from setup_bdev_super() and in all other places just
becomes equivalent to opening and closing a file.

This has held up in xfstests and in blktests so far and it seems stable
and clean. The equivalence of opening and closing block devices to
regular files is a win in and of itself imho. Added to that is the
ability to do away with struct bdev_handle completely and make various
low-level helpers private to the block layer.

All places were we currently stash a struct bdev_handle we just stash a
file and use an accessor such as file_bdev() akin to I_BDEV() to get to
the block device.

It's now also possible to use file->f_mapping as a replacement for
bdev->bd_inode->i_mapping and file->f_inode or file->f_mapping->host as
an alternative to bdev->bd_inode allowing us to significantly reduce or
even fully remove bdev->bd_inode in follow-up patches.

In addition, we could get rid of sb->s_bdev and various other places
that stash the block device directly and instead stash the block device
file. Again, this is follow-up work if we want this.

s390/dasd: Remove PRINTK_HEADER and KMSG_COMPONENT definitions

PRINTK_HEADER was mainly used to prefix log messages with the module
name. Most components don't use this definition anymore. Either because
there are no log messages being generated anymore, or pr_*() were
replaced by dev_*(), which contains device and component information
already.

PRINTK_HEADER is also dropped in the function
dasd_3990_erp_handle_match_erp() in dasd_3990_erp.c from a panic() call
as panic() already provides all relevant information.

KMSG_COMPONENT was mainly used to identify a component in a long gone
kernel message catalog feature.

Remove both definition since they're either not used or alternatives
make the code slightly shorter and more readable.

Merge tag 'vfs-6.7.super' of gitolite.kernel.org:pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/vfs

Pull vfs superblock updates from Christian Brauner:
"This contains the work to make block device opening functions return a
struct bdev_handle instead of just a struct block_device. The same
struct bdev_handle is then also passed to block device closing
functions.

This allows us to propagate context from opening to closing a block
device without having to modify all users everytime.

Sidenote, in the future we might even want to try and have block
device opening functions return a struct file directly but that's a
series on top of this.

These are further preparatory changes to be able to count writable
opens and blocking writes to mounted block devices. That's a separate
piece of work for next cycle and for that we absolutely need the
changes to btrfs that have been quietly dropped somehow.

Originally the series contained a patch that removed the old
blkdev_*() helpers. But since this would've caused needles churn in
-next for bcachefs we ended up delaying it.

The second piece of work addresses one of the major annoyances about
the work last cycle, namely that we required dropping s_umount
whenever we used the superblock and fs_holder_ops for a block device.

The reason for that requirement had been that in some codepaths
s_umount could've been taken under disk->open_mutex (that's always
been the case, at least theoretically). For example, on surprise block
device removal or media change. And opening and closing block devices
required grabbing disk->open_mutex as well.

So we did the work and went through the block layer and fixed all
those places so that s_umount is never taken under disk->open_mutex.
This means no more brittle games where we yield and reacquire s_umount
during block device opening and closing and no more requirements where
block devices need to be closed. Filesystems don't need to care about
this.

There's a bunch of other follow-up work such as moving block device
freezing and thawing to holder operations which makes it work for all
block devices and not just the main block device just as we did for
surprise removal. But that is for next cycle.

Tested with fstests for all major fses, blktests, LTP"
