1You can install from the following types of media: 2 3 CDROM requires one of the following supported CDROM drives: 4 ATAPI - Any standard ATAPI CDROM drive hooked to 5 a supported controller (see Hardware Guide). 6 SCSI - Any standard SCSI CDROM drive hooked to 7 a supported controller (see Hardware Guide). 8 9 10 DOS A DOS primary partition with the required FreeBSD 11 distribution files copied onto it (e.g. C:\FREEBSD\) 12 13 14 UFS Assuming a disk or partition with an existing 15 FreeBSD file system and distribution set on it, 16 get the distribution files from there. 17 18 19 Floppy Get distribution files from one or more DOS or UFS 20 formatted floppies. Such floppies are assumed to 21 contain the appropriate distribution pieces - see 22 ABOUT.TXT for more information about making floppy 23 distribution media. 24 25 26 FTP Get the distribution files from an anonymous ftp server 27 (you will be presented with a list). Please note that 28 you may invoke FTP in "Active"/"Passive" auto-mode, or 29 via an HTTP proxy. 30 31 By default, ftp(1) will automatically use the best mode 32 for the server. Using an HTTP proxy is sometimes necessary 33 for firewalls which block all FTP connections. 34 35 If you chose to enter your own URL in the FTP menu, please 36 note that all paths are *relative* to the home directory 37 of the user being logged in as. By default, this is the 38 user "ftp" (anonymous ftp) but you may change this in the 39 Options screen. 40 41 42 HTTP Direct 43 Get the distribution files directly from an HTTP server. 44 45 If you chose to enter your own URL in the HTTP Direct menu, 46 please note that all paths are *relative* to the root 47 directory of the web server. 48 49 50 NFS Get the distribution files from an NFS server somewhere 51 (make sure that permissions on the server allow this!). 52 If this install method hangs on you or refuses to work 53 properly, you may need to set some special options for 54 your NFS server. See the Options screen for more details. 55
