The 46/dev/fd* devices with trailing alphabetic characters are used to indicate 47'partitions' on the floppy disk. The /dev/fd*.<number> are devices that 48indicate the size of the floppy disk (so: 720kB, 1440kB etc). The latter 49are used for formatting disks using fdformat or for accessing different 50density disks in multidensity drive. Example: 720kB disk in a 1.44Mb drive. 51.Sh FILES 52.Bl -tag -width Pa -compact 53.It /dev/fd* 54floppy disk device nodes 55.It /dev/fd*.<size in kB> 56floppy disk device nodes where the trailing number indicates the floppy 57capacity 58.It /dev/ft* 59floppy tape (QIC40/80) device nodes 60.It Pa /sys/i386/conf/GENERIC 61sample generic kernel config file 62.It Pa /sys/i386/isa/fd.c 63floppy driver source 64.It Pa /sys/i386/isa/ft.c 65floppy tape (QIC40/80 driver source 66.El 67.Sh SEE ALSO 68.Xr disktab 5 69.Xr fdformat 1 70.Xr ft 1 71
