Currently, 45only a few of the interfaces and features are implemented in 46.Fx , 47although efforts are underway to complete the integration at this time. 48.Pp 49POSIX.1e describes five security extensions to the base POSIX.1 API: 50Access Control Lists (ACLs), Auditing, Capabilities, Mandatory Access 51Control, and Information Flow Labels. Of these, the ACL interfaces are 52currently included with 53.Fx , 54Auditing, Capabilities, and Mandatory 55Access Control are in the wings, and Information Flow Labels are not on 56the calendar. 57.Pp 58POSIX.1e defines both syntax and semantics for these features, but fairly 59substantial changes are required to implement these features in the 60operating system. As shipped, 61.Fx 4.0 62permits file systems to export 63Access Control Lists via the VFS, and provides a library for userland 64access to and manipulation of these ACLs, but support for ACLs is not 65provided by any file systems shipped in the base operating system. 66Available API calls relating to ACLs are described in detail in 67.Xr acl 3 . 68.Pp 69.Fx 70currently provides documentation and APIs for fine-grained capability 71support, but implementation is currently not included in the base 72system. Documentation of these API calls is provided in 73.Xr cap 3 . 74.Pp 75Additional patches supporting POSIX.1e features are provided by the 76TrustedBSD project: 77.Pp 78http://www.trustedbsd.org 79.Sh IMPLEMENTATION NOTES 80Support for POSIX.1e interfaces and features is still under 81development at this time. 82.Sh ENVIRONMENT 83POSIX.1e assigns security labels to all objects, extending the security 84functionality described in POSIX.1. These additional labels provide 85fine-grained discretionary access control, fine-grained capabilities, 86and labels necessary for mandatory access control. POSIX.2c describes 87a set of userland utilities for manipulating these labels. These userland 88utilities are not bundled with 89.Fx 4.0 90so as to discourage their 91use in the short term. 92.Sh FILES 93.Sh SEE ALSO 94.Xr acl 3 , 95.Xr acl 9 , 96.Xr cap 3 , 97.Xr cap 9 , 98.Xr extattr 9 99.Sh STANDARDS 100POSIX.1e is described in IEEE POSIX.1e draft 17. Discussion 101of the draft continues on the cross-platform POSIX.1e implementation 102mailing list. To join this list, see the 103.Fx 104POSIX.1e implementation 105page for more information. 106.Sh HISTORY 107POSIX.1e support was introduced in 108.Fx 4.0 , 109and development continues. 110.Sh AUTHORS 111.An Robert N M Watson , 112.An Ilmar S Habibulin 113.Sh BUGS 114These features are not yet fully implemented. 115
